2012: The summer concerts that you do not want to miss

Katie Hurley, Variety Editor

“When the sun goes down, we’ll be grooving, when the sun goes down, we’ll be feeling alright,” claims the ever famous Kenny Chesney. This summer, we sure will be grooving when the sun goes down with Kenny and Tim McGraw and Gillette Stadium’s Countryfest tour. However, there are many other talented artists to keep your eyes peeled for this     season.

As the ideal summer weather for tailgating and crazy nights of singing quickly approaches, we have the perfect list of summer concerts to suit your tastes in music. You would not want to miss out on all of this fun now would you? Here are the top artists to tour our hot nation this summer:

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Looking for an awesome concert RIGHT NOW? Well, you may be in luck. The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be performing at the TD Garden Monday, May 7th and are sure to raise some commotion in Boston. This band will definitely impress with their talented band players and amazing acoustics. Boston is just one of the Chili Peppers’ first stops along their tour for the summer. Therefore, if you are unable to get into town this week, check out their website for many more concert listings through October.

Dave Matthews Band

After taking a year off from touring, DMB is back in the States. A classic summer tour that almost everyone is familiar with, DMB will return to the New England area towards the end of May / beginning of June. I personally have never been but have always dreamed of attending a DMB concert. As a result, I cannot wait for that dream to come true in Hartford on May 25. Join me in listening to classics from Under the Table and Dreaming to Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King!

Coldplay

They have not played in the States since August of 2009, so this tour will definitely have an impact on the nation this summer. The talented band, Coldplay, will return with new material from their Mylo Xyloto album paired with classic Coldplay tunes.

As of this past April, Coldplay has been nominated for three 2012 Billboard Music Awards that include Top Group/Duo, Top Alternative Artist, and Top Rock Artist. The awards will be presented on May 20th, and you will be glad to have seen this   band live in concert if you   can afford the ticket!

Jay-Z and Kayne West

After recording Watch the Throne back in August of 2011, Jay-Z and Kayne are ready to bring their popular singles to the stage. Offering a little something different, Watch the Throne will impress the audience with a combination of orchestral, rock, and dramatic music. With popular reviews from critics and a number one debut on the US Billboard 200 Chart, you will definitely get your money’s worth after   seeing this summer concert.

Beach Boys Reunion Tour

Looking to take a step back in time with some “Good Vibrations”? Laugh all you want, I saw the Beach Boys on tour just a couple of years ago at the Cape Cod Melody tent in Massachusetts, and it was a blast! Of course I attended the concert with one of the Beach Boys’ most beloved fans, my dad, which made the experience all the more interesting. However, it truly was an experience! If you are searching for a way to “Surf the USA” this summer, the Beach Boys are your perfect concert destination!

Nice list Katie! I’ve just bought the Jay-Z and Kayne West’s concert ticket on this morning. Can’t wait to see them perform live!
