Local pizza: Tony’s Sutton vs. Bob and Timmy’s

Dan Cournoyer and Emily Dupuis

Ronzio’s getting a little old?  Trust me, by senior year, the only time you’ll be eating there will be Friday night at 2:30am.  My hunt for a good pizzeria had run dry prior to last week.  I tried all the local spots – Pizza Pizza Pizza, House of Pizza, and Athens Pizza House.  Turns out I had to do a little bit of travelling to find a great spot – Tony’s Sutton Pizza Restaurant.

As a student from central Massachusetts, I’ve taken my fair share of rides along Route-146.  As long you haven’t been pulled over by the numerous cops that cover the street, you should take a relaxing stop at Tony’s.  Conveniently placed 25 minutes from Bryant and 25 minutes from central MA, Tony’s has the full package.

The pizza that Tony’s has to offer has that real pizza taste, none of the fake, chain-like pizza Salmo has to offer.  If you’re not the pizza type, you could check out any number of hot and cold subs.  The list is endless because you can order whatever you want.  I pushed the limits when I ordered a BLT, minus the T, minus the mayo, plus cheese, and of course plus pickles.  After that confusing order, the head chef came over and joked around with me a little about my sub.  The atmosphere is very friendly and there are A LOT of employees working at the same time.

My food was delicious and very filling.  Tony’s has a great all-around pizzeria that I couldn’t recommend any higher.  The Bryant men’s tennis team has made numerous stops on our way home from trips, and we’ve been pleased with the service of our large group as well.  I recommend it to anyone and everyone.  Check it out and you’ll be happy you did so.

Bob and Timmy’s Grilled Pizza is one of the most famous restaurants in Rhode Island, earning national recognition for its delicious food. The restaurant has received many awards and rave reviews.  The June 2009 issue of GQ Magazine ranked Bob and Timmy’s spinach and mushroom grilled pizza as fifth in the country.

The restaurant was also featured on the Today Show in a special about the best pizzas in America. This past summer, the Travel Channel’s show, Man v. Food Nation visited the restaurant’s Providence location, where the host enjoyed the grilled pizza.

You can enjoy this pizza at the North Smithfield location on 621 Pound Hill Road.  The restaurant offers a broad selection of pizzas. Their famous wood-grilled variety comes with many combinations, including chicken alfredo, eggplant, sausage supreme, and margarita. The restaurant also offers the more traditional oven pizza, with nineteen different toppings to choose from including pepperoni, chicken, anchovies, and sun dried tomatoes.

In addition to their famous pizza, Bob and Timmy’s offers an assortment of subs and pasta dishes, as well as starters, salads, and desserts. Customers also have the option of creating their own calzone. For more information, including hours, interested patrons can call the restaurant at 401-768-3490 or visit their website.
